We’re in the final push for our internal signature count deadline on July 1st. This milestone helps us gauge where we stand across the state and ensure we’re well on track. While Portage County is likely to have met its required signature count, we will continue collecting signatures throughout the summer to overshoot the mandate and leave no doubt.
The goal? Getting this constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes on the November 2026 ballot.
This is a long game—and we’re playing to win. If you’d like to help us gather signatures in Portage County or beyond, please email us at portageprojectpromise@gmail.com.
When you eliminate property tax, you also eliminate the massive administrative machinery that props it up — auditors, collections, appeals, appraisals. That money doesn’t just disappear. It can be repurposed. And here’s the kicker — if we really started reviewing the waste in government spending, especially at the administrative level, we’d find more than enough to shift burdens without breaking the backs of homeowners..Most likely it will consist of a hybrid of funding mechanisms already in place. hink property taxes don’t affect renters? Think again.
Your landlord doesn’t just eat those tax hikes — they pass them on to you. Every levy, every reassessment, every bureaucratic money-grab shows up right there in your monthly rent.
That’s why rents are rising — not just because of market demand, but because the state keeps jacking up what it costs to own property. FOR MORE VISIT THE NEXT TAB ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM. DOWNLOAD OUR BROCHURE
THEY LOST THE FAMILY FARM! Elayne Cross of AxOhTax—the group behind the petition to end property tax—shared a personal story of loss: her own family was forced to give up their farm because they couldn’t keep up with the rising tax burden.
Lou can’t afford to stay in his home.
His wife is battling cancer—and he is actually told, “Just move her.”
This is the reality too many of our neighbors face. It's why we’re fighting to end property tax —because no one should be forced out of their home.

Maybe you’ve lost your home. Maybe you’re barely holding it together. Property taxes are quietly crushing families, seniors, and working people across our communities.
We want to tell these stories—not to sensationalize suffering, but to speak the truth. Because when honest people stay silent, injustice wins.
We’re creating a presentation series to spotlight the real impact of runaway property taxes. We don’t need your name or your face. We just need your words. Your voice. Your courage.
Tell the truth.

Project Promise is a 501 (c)(4) organization founded in June 2021 by a group of engaged Portage County citizens who are concerned about the direction of America. We were inspired by the ideals of our founding fathers and their vision for America
When George Washington, and his fellow founding fathers put together their plan for America, they envisioned a shining city on a hill, where all men are created equal under the eyes of God. They believed America should be the land of opportunity, where you can achieve your dreams through hard work and perseverance. This is the American dream, and it remains as important today, as it did at the Constitutional Convention.
At Project Promise, we seek to support and promote these promises our nation was founded upon. We believe improving our country starts right here at home, through issue advocacy, education outreach community service, and legislation reform. We are committed to supporting and uplifting our neighbors and helping them achieve their true God given potential and seek to help foster a more prosperous America for all.
